Maple Old Fashioned
Day 3: Steve’s Maple Old Fashioned – A Rich Twist on a Classic
When it comes to holiday cocktails, nothing beats a classic with a seasonal upgrade. For Day 3 of our 12 Days of Cocktails, we’re spotlighting Steve, our cider maker and resident cocktail enthusiast. His go-to drink for the season? The Maple Old Fashioned, made with his very own homemade maple syrup and Swilled Dog Barrel Strength Bourbon. This rich and flavorful twist on the timeless Old Fashioned is perfect for cozy gatherings or quiet nights by the fire.
Here’s how to make it:
Ingredients
- 2 oz Swilled Dog Barrel Strength Bourbon
- 1/4 oz real maple syrup (bonus points if it’s homemade!)
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- Ice (large cube preferred)
- Orange peel and cherry for garnish
Instructions
- In a mixing glass, combine the bourbon, maple syrup, and bitters.
- Add ice and stir for about 10 seconds until well-chilled.
- Strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube.
- Express the oils from an orange peel over the glass, then use it as a garnish with a cherry.
The bold, barrel-strength bourbon brings rich depth and complexity, while the maple syrup adds just the right amount of sweetness with a hint of caramelized warmth. Together, they create a cocktail that’s festive, smooth, and oh-so-satisfying.
Pro Tip: Serve this Maple Old Fashioned to guests, but feel free keep the secret ingredient (homemade maple syrup) to yourself—it’s the perfect holiday hosting flex!
