SUPERPOWERS: BEING A MOM, HAVING A GROWTH MINDSET, AND THINKING POSITIVELY
Brooke Glover, president and co-founder of the award-winning Swilled Dog Hard Cider & Spirits, is all about experience. “I love the idea of people enjoying themselves with their family and their friends,” she says. “That includes food, and, for me, that includes beverages. I don’t care if it’s nonalcoholic or alcoholic, you know, it’s just part of the experience of people getting together.” Since 2016, she’s been helping folks accomplish just that. When she’s not busy with Swilled Dog, she serves as vice president of the American Cider Association and sits on various committees and councils related to cideries and spirits. In other words, she knows her stuff.
“We really believe in West Virginia, and we believe in making a difference here.”
The company’s mission, she says, is what drives her to continue expanding and pushing boundaries. Not only do they serve up great drinks, but they also regularly give back to animal welfare charities and causes. It’s all in the name of Glover’s beloved dog, Lucy, who had a tough life before she was adopted by Glover and her family. “We really believe in West Virginia, and we believe in making a difference here. Not only through our animal charities, but through the economic side of things,” she says. “Making sure that we are supporting and creating jobs, being part of tourism—all those things are really important to us. And really, our main mission is giving back to animals, so the more we grow, the more we can give back.”
Glover hints that big things are coming down the road, including a second location that the company will share more information on soon. “My hope is that 2024 is going to be a big year for Swilled Dog.” It’s all part of her personal commitment to bringing people together and giving back.
Since 2014 WV Living magazine has been honoring West Virginia Wonder Women, amazing women who are raising the bar in their communities, serving as beacons of light in their industries, and forcing change for the greater good. WV Living is proud to celebrate these Appalachian mothers, millennials, and mavens proving that in a time full of uncertainty, divisiveness, and hate, love for one another is all we really need. No need for bulletproof bracelets or a golden lasso of truth—these women are creating a better West Virginia with their can-do attitudes and Mountain State spirit.
